Update #2: The issue has been resolved. RT data was restored starting at about 1500Z
on 2/27/25. Backlog data from 2000Z 2/26 – 1500Z 2/27/25 was rerun and restored by
2200Z on 2/27.
Update #1: The problem between NCCF and JMA has been identified, and repairs are
underway. Our first priority is to restore real time data flow; afterwards, we will attempt
to restore missing data.
Topic: Himawari-9 outage
Date/Time Issued: February 28, 2025 1430Z
Product or Data Impacted: Himawari-9 Imagery and Derived Products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: February 27, 2025 0025Z
Date/Time of Expected End: February 27, 2025 2200Z
Length of the Outage/Event: 21 hours, 35 minutes
Details/Specifics: Starting at around 0025Z, the Himawari Cloud data feed to NCCF and PDA became severely degraded. We are only receiving about 15% of normal data. This is not enough
to generate any imagery or to use for any derived data. The issue is being investigated. Until it is resolved, we have no Himawari imagery or Derived Products (Rain Rate, Cloud, Winds).
This will also affect McIDAS distribution of Himawari data (HIM/ group). Blended products using this data (Global HydroEstimator, Global Mosaic, Arctic Composite) will
be degraded.
