REPORT DATE: 05-10-2019 REPORT TIME: 0110 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 05-09-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1048 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 4.91 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It is believed the linear and diffuse anomaly is an oil slick that emanated from the Wreck 1487 site approximately 90 nm due south of Nantucket Island, as it was connected to that wreck site. The slick stretched about 10.7 nm in length and stood out of place due to its large-to-moderate contrast compared to its surroundings. Winds were from the east at 10-15 kt at the time the satellite image was taken. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the partially segmented slick was connected to a known repeat oil leak source and exhibited characteristics commonly seen of oil in satellite imagery, there are no uncertainties that the anomaly was an oil slick.
