REPORT DATE: 06-25-2019 REPORT TIME: 1321 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6857 IMAGE DATE: 06-24-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1536 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 40°11'42" N/71°39'25" W AREA: 1.40 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS REPORT IS BASED ON IMAGERY CAPTURED YESTERDAY. Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The 4 nm-long linear slick appeared to be the result of a bilge dumping since the anomaly was linear, widened with distance, started abruptly at the wide end, and was black with white areas in sun glint where thicker oil was located. Winds were from the WSW at 8 kts at the time of the image, according to Montauk Point buoy data. UNCERTAINTIES: The point source was unknown and not located within the field of view, but it appeared that the slick was produced by a vessel traveling SE. There are no known natural or man-made sources of oil leaks in the vicinity that could have created such a distinct linear oil slick.
