REPORT DATE: 07-08-2019 REPORT TIME: 0100 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-07-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1629 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 1.14 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was believed to be emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. The anomaly was approximately 5.02 nm oriented N-S and approximately 0.41nm at its widest. The relatively thicker oil, the white/shimmer portions, had moderate to high contrast from its homogeneous surroundings and there were no signs of natural phenomena. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the NNW between 10-15 kts which aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was not directly connected to the possible point source but it was in close proximity.
