REPORT DATE: 09-01-2019 REPORT TIME: 2230 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 09-01-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1521 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 0.34 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended approximately 2.42 nmi to the northwest from the site of Wreck 1487, a known repeat oil leak source, and was up to 0.09 nmi in width. The anomaly stood out well against the background and had silver/white shimmer to part of the anomaly. Winds at the time of image were from the east at 10-15 knots, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given the association with a repeat leak source and visible chromatic characteristics. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly extended under cloud cover, potentially obscuring the exact boundaries at the end part of the anomaly.
