REPORT DATE: 12-27-2019 REPORT TIME: 1445 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 12-27-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1048 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 2.50 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended approximately 4.86 nmi to the west from the site of Wreck 1487, a known repeat oil leak source, and was up to 0.39 nmi in width. It appeared dark and had moderate contrast to its homogeneous surroundings. Winds at the time of image were from southeast at 10 knots, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given the association with a repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: The exact boundary of the anomaly might not be accurate since the contrast is moderate.
