REPORT DATE: 02-09-2025 REPORT TIME: 1215 UTC REGION: GULF OF AMERICA SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 100 IMAGE DATE: 02-09-2025 IMAGE TIME: 0002 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5X20 meter LOCATION: 29°34'58" N/88°41'53" W AREA: 21.10 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was believed to be associated with NRC #1423052. The slick was broken into fragments and it spanned over 22.5 nm overall. The first cluster of fragments located towards the SW spanned over 10.73 nm. The second fragment was approx. 10 nm NE of the first cluster and it was believed to be the anomaly that was reported in the mentioned NRC and has since drifted. All fragments were dark, had well defined edges, distinguishable from natural phenomena/seeps, and had strong contrast against the ocean background. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the S at 13 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: There were multiple oil facilities and pipelines in the vicinity which made it difficult to determine a point source. Also, the full extent of the fragmented slick was unknown due to the image being cut off.
