REPORT DATE: 03-25-2025 REPORT TIME: 1330 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: SOUTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: STRAITS OF FLORIDA 6108 IMAGE DATE: 03-24-2025 IMAGE TIME: 2315 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 25°52'57" N/79°42'06" W AREA: 4.26 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The linear anomaly measured about 7.5 nm in length and was thought to have resulted from ship pollution. The slick showed strong contrast against the surrounding ocean surface, widened as it extended away from the suspected source, and cut off abruptly instead of dissipating gradually, as would have been expected from a ship wake. Because of these characteristics, we had high confidence that the anomaly being reported was due to ship pollution. Winds came from the south at approximately 10 kt at the time the satellite image was captured. UNCERTAINTIES: One false positive, thought to have been caused by biological objects, and another, believed to have resulted from ship wake, were located near the reported anomaly.
