REPORT DATE: 05-22-2025 REPORT TIME: 0035 UTC REGION: GULF OF AMERICA SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 81 IMAGE DATE: 05-21-2025 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°14'27" N/89°04'33" W AREA: 0.31 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located in the Main Pass area of Louisiana and possibly associated with NOAA ResponseLink Hotline 10958 (TPIC Main Pass 81 B South Platform Potential Oil Spill, issued 15 April). There were patches of possible oil appearing to the east of the point source, the farthest being the largest and measuring approximately .5 by .25 NM across, with a total distance from the source of 3.5 NM. Bright, silvery areas were visible, indicating possible thicker oil. Winds were from the west at 10 kt. UNCERTAINTIES: The TPIC facility was identified as the source in this report due to the hotline and its relative location west of the possible oil, given the wind conditions. However, there were multiple facilities in the area and it is possible there were additional contributing sources.
