REPORT DATE: 06-03-2025 REPORT TIME: 0345 UTC REGION: GULF OF AMERICA SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SOUTH PASS 5 IMAGE DATE: 06-02-2025 IMAGE TIME: 1704 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 29°08'17" N/89°00'53" W AREA: 65.02 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The large slick spanned over approximately 21.22 nm and approx. 6.96 nm at its widest. It did not test positive or resemble vegetation. It was distinct from natural phenomena due to its large and unnatural shape. It was mostly shimmery with white centers spread throughout which indicated the presence of relatively thicker oil. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the E at 8 kt which aligned well with the orientation of the slick. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the slick was unknown due to the satellite image being cut off towards the east. There were other suspicious slicks towards the west that seemed to merge with this large one. As for the point source, there were various oil facilities, wells, and pipelines within the vicinity which made it difficult to pinpoint a specific origin. There was an oil facility towards the northern end of the slick that was visibly connected.
