Details/Specifics of Change:
On 20 April 2009, a final update was made to the NOAA-16 AMSU-B gross filter limits (channel 18 lower limits) in an effort to address the final possibility for data gross filtering in the near future for this instrument. However, this update introduced a data file format inconsistency causing the level 1B preprocessing system to generate erroneous data or no data with possible impacts to all NOAA-16 instrument data. On 21 April 2009 around 0800Z, the erroneous file was removed from operations. On 21 April at 1134Z, the correct update to change the channel 18 gross filter limits was put into operations. All data affected by the problem were reprocessed and provide to users. The list of impacted passes is provided below. Please accept our apology for problems this error may have caused your operations. We are taking steps to improve the process in an effort to avoid problems such as this in the future.
