THROUGH 2330Z May 3rd, 2025
SMOKE: Western United States/British Columbia... A thin, elongated layer of light density smoke was observed this evening coming from the Pacific and spreading along the coast north into British Columbia and south into southern California. Southern Canada/US and Canadian Rockies/US Midwest... A area of light smoke could be seen moving east from fires up and down the Rocky Mountains from New Mexico to New Mexico. The smoke spread over the Midwest towards the Great Lakes and into Quebec. Many plumes of heavy to light density smoke were seen throughout the Rockies and across the Midwest from Texas to Saskatchewan. Mexico... A large area of light smoke covered most of Mexico was seen building and moving east and north into the US and Gulf of America as a result of widespread fire activity across most of the southwest. Many heavy plumes were observed along the fires in the west near the coast and south across the Yucatan. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Central and Southern Mexico/Gulf of America/Bay of Campeche/Pacific Ocean... An area of light density smoke/aerosol attributed to widespread seasonal fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed over the coastline of Southern Mexico continuing to move west further into the Pacific, and north into the Bay of Campeche, Gulf of America and southern US. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
