DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1747Z June 10, 2025

SMOKE:
Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean/Europe...
Wildfire activity in northeastern British Columbia, northern Alberta, and
east-central Saskatchewan continues to produce moderate to thick smoke,
which is spreading east from northeastern British Columbia to Newfoundland
and Labrador and drifting south over the Midwestern U.S. and the Upper
Great Lakes. Lighter-density smoke blankets most of Canada and the United
States east of the Rockies, moving eastward over the Atlantic toward
Europe. Cloud cover over portions of central and northeastern Canada
limited the detection of smoke in those areas from satellite imagery.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central-Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America...
An area of light-density smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources
throughout central and southern Mexico, was observed extending over
central-southern Mexico, the southern Gulf of America, and the Pacific
Ocean off Mexico’s southern coastline.

DUST:
Tropical Atlantic...
Saharan Dust was observed moving west from the Atlantic into the
Caribbean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
