DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2300Z June 10, 2025

SMOKE:
Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean/Europe...
Wildfire activity through central and western Canada continues to
produce moderate to thick smoke that extends east-southeastward into the
Northern Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes. The smoke from there is drawn
northeastward across the northeastern CONUS and eastern Canada. The smoke
was then observed moving around the southern periphery of a cyclone and
out eastward between Iceland and the British Isles and into mainland
Europe. Across the northern tier of Canadian Territories, moderate to
thick smoke was seen accumulating from previous days and concentrating
due to flow coming down from the pole, which may also contain some smoke
from wildfire activity in Siberia.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central-Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America...
An area of light-to-moderate density smoke and aerosols, attributed to
widespread seasonal fire activity, gas flaring, and industrial sources
throughout central and southern Mexico was observed extending over
central-southern Mexico, the southern and western Gulf of America, and
the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s southern coastline. Some is also seen
being drawn around the northern and western sides of Tropical Storms
Barbara and Cosme in the Eastern Pacific.

DUST:
Tropical Atlantic...
Saharan Dust was observed blanketing the tropical Atlantic from Africa
to the central Caribbean, moving into the western Caribbean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
