DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1400Z June 11, 2025

SMOKE:
Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean/Europe...
Wildfire activity through Central and western Canada continues to
produce moderate-to-thick smoke extending westward over Northern Yukon
and Central-Eastern Alaska and east-southeastward into the Northern
Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic states,
with higher concentrations found around Northeastern British Columbia and
Central-Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Additional light-to-moderate
density smoke emitted from those same wildfires in the previous days is
also observed moving eastward across the Northern Atlantic and approaching
the United Kingdom.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Northwestern Mexico-Pacific Ocean/Southwestern Gulf of America...
Two separate areas of light smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, gas flaring, and industrial sources throughout
central and southern Mexico was observed along the Southwestern Gulf of
America and off the coastline of Northwestern Mexico south of the Bay
of California.

DUST:
Northern Mexico...
Blowing dust could be seen forming off dry land areas across Chihuahua
state in Northern Mexico, dispersing to the southwest towards Southeastern
Sonora and and Northeastern Sinaloa.

Tropical Atlantic...
Saharan Dust was observed blanketing the tropical Atlantic from Africa
to the Eastern Caribbean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
