DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z June 11, 2025

SMOKE:
Canada/Yukon/Northwest Territories/Central and Eastern United
States/Atlantic Ocean/Newfoundland...
Wildfire activity throughout western and central Canada continues to
produce light-to-moderate density smoke extending across most of Canada,
Yukon and the southern half of the Northwest Territories, central and east
CONUS, the Atlantic Ocean, and over Newfoundland. The moderate density
smoke was observed to be concentrated over western and central Canada.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of America...
Two separate areas of light smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, gas flaring, and industrial sources throughout
central and southern Mexico was observed along the western coastline of
Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche, and the eastern
coastline of Mexico drifting into the Gulf of America.

DUST:
Northern Mexico...
Blowing dust could be seen forming off dry land areas across Chihuahua
state in Northern Mexico, dispersing to the west towards Southeastern
Sonora.

Tropical Atlantic...
Saharan Dust was observed blanketing the tropical Atlantic from Africa
to the Eastern Caribbean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
