DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z June 13, 2025
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean... Wildfire activity throughout Western and Central Canada continues to produce mostly light-to-moderate density smoke impacting a large area including Central Alaska, Northwestern and Central Canada, the Mid-Western and Eastern United States, and extending off the coast of New England and Newfoundland over the Northwestern Atlantic. Areas of higher smoke concentration are seen stretching from Northeastern British Columbia to Central Alberta and Western Ontario. A second large smoke plume also linked to the Canadian wildfires continues to disperse eastward over the Northern Atlantic. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of America... Two separate areas of light smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread seasonal fire activity, gas flaring, and industrial sources throughout central and southern Mexico was observed along the western coastline of Mexico and the Gulf of California, and along the eastern Mexico coastline and the Western Gulf of America. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... Saharan Dust was observed blanketing the tropical Atlantic from Africa towards the Eastern Caribbean. Rodriguez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
