DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z June 13, 2025
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/Northern and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean... Widespread wildfire activity throughout Western and Central Canada continued to produce significant smoke coverage throughout the region. Thick density smoke was concentrated across northern Manitoba and western Ontario, with plumes extending eastward across southern Hudson Bay, central Quebec, and into the Atlantic Ocean. A broad area of light-to-moderate density smoke was observed spanning from northeastern British Columbia through central Alberta and Saskatchewan into the Northern Plains of the United States. Lighter smoke extended southeastward over the Great Lakes and into the northeastern U.S. continuing offshore into the western Atlantic. Additional smoke from fires in central Alaska and Yukon drifted eastward, merging with the larger continental smoke mass. Portions of the Northwest Territories, Hudson Bay, and Labrador also experienced impacts from the high-latitude smoke transport. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of America... Two separate areas of light smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread seasonal fire activity, gas flaring, and industrial sources throughout central and southern Mexico was observed along the western coastline of Mexico and the Gulf of California, and along the eastern Mexico coastline and the Western Gulf of America. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... Saharan Dust was observed blanketing the tropical Atlantic from Africa towards the Eastern Caribbean. Cardona THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
