DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z June 14, 2025

SMOKE:
Alaska/Canada/Northern and Central United States/Atlantic Ocean...
Wildfire activity across northeastern British Columbia, central Manitoba
and western Ontario continued to generate thick density smoke across
central Canada. The most concentrated plumes were observed over northern
Ontario and southern Hudson Bay, with the smoke spreading eastward
across Quebec and into the North Atlantic. A substantial band of moderate
density smoke extended west to east from northeastern British Columbia
across the Prairie Provinces and into Quebec.

Lighter smoke was visible moving southeast across the Great Lakes
and into the northeastern U.S., continuing offshore over the western
Atlantic. Additional plumes originating from active fires in central
Alaska and the Yukon were observed drifting eastward and merging
with broader smoke layers over northern Canada. Parts of the Northwest
Territories, Labrador, and coastal Greenland were affected by long range
transport of the northern smoke band.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico...
Light smoke and aerosols were observed along the western coastline of
Mexico and across the Yucatan.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
