DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/Northern US... Wildfire activity continues over western and central Canada and is now also observed in western Alaska. Light-density smoke was seen from northwestern Alaska to Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and northern Hudson Bay, while light to moderate smoke extended from central Alaska to southern Yukon, northeastern British Columbia, northwestern Alberta, south-central Saskatchewan, southern Manitoba, and central Ontario, dipping into northeastern Montana, the Dakotas, and northern Minnesota. Northern Mexico/Texas/New Mexico... Plumes of predominantly light-density smoke associated with wildfire activity in southern Utah, southwestern New Mexico, and northern Mexico were observed covering parts of northern Mexico and the Gulf of California, as well as central-western Texas, New Mexico, and northeastern Arizona. Within this large area of smoke, patches of moderate to heavy-density smoke were observed in the vicinity of the fires. Wyoming... The Horse Fire in west-central Wyoming was observed producing light to locally moderate-density smoke drifting eastward. DUST: Lesser Antilles... Saharan Dust was observed moving west over the Lesser Antilles. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
