SMOKE: Canada/Northern and Central United States/Northeastern U.S./Gulf Coast… Widespread wildfire activity in the northwestern Canada, particularly in eastern British Columbia and central Alberta, continued to produce significant smoke coverage. An expansive area of light to moderate density smoke extended eastward from British Columbia across central Canada, including portions of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and into western Ontario. This smoke also spread southeastward into the northern plains and parts of the Upper Midwest. A separate area of smoke was observed across the central and southern United States, particularly over Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle, with light to moderate concentrations. This smoke is associated with both regional fire activity, and long-range transport from the northern and western regions. Additional plumes of light smoke extended across the Gulf Coast states, including Texas and Louisiana, and offshore into the Gulf of America. Another narrow band of light smoke was visible across northern New York and parts of New England, likely associated with Canadian transport. Cardona THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
