DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1550Z July 9, 2025

SMOKE:
Alaska/Canada/Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean...
Wildfire activity throughout Alaska, northwestern and Central Canada
was producing a widespread area of smoke that covered most of Canada,
the Northern Plains and the Eastern United States. Several locations
within this area had moderate to high density smoke, including much of
Central Canada and extending as far east as southern Quebec and also
from the Northwest Territories extending northeast towards portions of
the Arctic Ocean.

Western United States….
Fire activity over portions of Nevada, northern California and southern
Oregon were producing areas of smoke that were extending northeast and
merging with smoke, from the Canadian fires, over southern Canada and
the Northern Plains. Moderate to locally dense smoke from this activity
was located over western South Dakota, western Nebraska and Wyoming and
further north over southern Saskatchewan.

DUST:
Tropical Atlantic Ocean and eastern Caribbean Islands….
An area of Saharan Dust was seen over portions of the Tropical Atlantic
Ocean extending west into portion of the northeast Caribbean Islands.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
