DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0226Z July 10, 2025

SMOKE:
Alaska/Canada/Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean...
Wildfire activity throughout Alaska, northwestern and Central Canada
continued to produced a widespread area of smoke that covered most
of Canada, the Northern Plains and the Eastern United States. Several
locations within this area had moderate to heavy density smoke, including
much of Central Canada and extending as far east as southern Quebec and
also from the Northwest Territories extending northeast towards portions
of the Arctic Ocean.

Nevada...
The large Mount Irish Fire in southern Nevada was observed producing
locally moderate to heavy density smoke drifting northeast. Lighter
density smoke was extending further and merging with smoke from the
Canadian fires.

California/Oregon...
Wildfires in northern California and southern Oregon were observed
producing locally moderate to heavy density smoke. The smoke plumes
moved generally to the southeast.

DUST:
Tropical Atlantic Ocean and eastern Caribbean Islands….
An area of Saharan Dust was seen over portions of the Tropical Atlantic
Ocean extending west into portion of the northeast Caribbean Islands.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
